On World Day of Social Justice, the Pan American Development Foundation reaffirms our commitment to justice for vulnerable people across Latin America and the Caribbean. Our projects support indigenous groups as well as civil society and human rights throughout the hemisphere. The 2015 theme for Social Justice Day calls attention to the issues of forced labor and human trafficking.
In 2014, PADF worked with the Government of Mexico’s Secretariat of Labor and Social Inclusion (STPS) and other partners to launch the “México Sin Trabajo Infantil” (Mexico Without Child Labor) campaign. Additional partners included MTV Latin America, Boeing, the International Labour Organization, Telefónica, Cinepolis, Altos Hornos de Mexico, Alianza Heartland and La Trata de Personas. The objective was to empower young people to spread the word against child labor through viral marketing on television and through social media channels.
The campaign launched in August 2014 at the MTV Millennial Awards in Mexico City and included a roadshow in four Mexican states where child labor is a major problem. In total, the initiative reached more than 7.5 million people across the country.
